Hot / Cold Tapping

Hot Tapping is a specialized method of creating a branch connection to existing pipelines, vessels or process equipment while the system remains under pressure. PTS is capable of performing hot tapping for sizes ranging from ½ inch to 96 inches, handling pressures of up to 1480 psi and temperatures as high as 700°F. The flange ratings for these operations vary from 150 lbs to 900 lbs, adhering to ANSI standards.

PTS services are designed to handle drilling through all major tank walls, even those reinforced with bars, while maintaining pressure. This technique enables the installation of a new branch line from a digester or reservoir, complete with a valve for effective flow control. The team can also drill through concrete walls with thicknesses ranging from 200 mm to 1500 mm. To cater to diverse requirements, PTS offers the option to manufacture cutting tools for specific nominal bore sizes. These projects can be delivered on a turnkey basis, encompassing site surveys, design, manufacturing and installation. This method involves the use of a tapping machine combined with a full-bore valve and fittings such as a nozzle or a full-encirclement split tee welded to the pressurized system. PTS Group’s tank, sump and reservoir hot tapping services ensure precision and efficiency in drilling operations under pressure. By employing this advanced technique, the company delivers comprehensive solutions tailored to the specific needs of each client.
